Important Tax Filing Deadlines

January 31

Deadline for employers to issue W-2 forms to employees and 1099 forms to contractors.

April 15

Federal individual income tax return due date (Form 1040). Also the deadline for first-quarter estimated tax payments.

June 15

Second-quarter estimated tax payment deadline. Also the deadline for U.S. citizens living abroad to file their federal return.

September 15

Third-quarter estimated tax payment deadline. Extended deadline for S-corporation and partnership returns (if extended in March).

October 15

Extended deadline for individual federal income tax returns (Form 1040) if an extension was filed by April 15.

December 31

Year-end deadline for charitable contributions, retirement account contributions (certain plans), and other year-end tax planning moves.
